Fire Retardant / Flame-Resistant Fabric

When heat and flame are part of the working environment, fabric selection becomes more than a matter of comfort or appearance. Flame-resistant and fire-retardant fabrics are developed for protective applications where resistance to flame and heat exposure is an important part of garment performance.
Depending on the application, available solutions may include inherently flame-resistant materials such as meta-aramid fabrics and chemically treated FR fabric constructions. Each technology has different characteristics, so material selection should be based on the intended use, garment construction, required standard, and approved technical documentation.
A better question is: what does the finished garment need to protect against? Working environment, exposure conditions, garment design, construction, and required standards can all influence material selection.
