Choosing Webbing for Backpacks
Four things to check so backpack straps stay comfortable and last in use.

Match the width to the load#
A wider strap spreads the load over a larger area. Make sure the width also fits the buckles and adjusters you plan to use.
Choose the material for the use#
Nylon suits backpacks that carry heavier loads. Polyester suits bags that spend a lot of time in the sun. Polypropylene is lighter and more economical, which suits lighter loads.
Check the weave#
A tight, even weave generally resists abrasion better. Check the edges too, since they are what rubs against the buckle.
Test before production#
Sew a sample strap onto the bag and test it with loads and movement close to daily use. This shows whether the strap, the seams and the hardware work together.
