A Guide to Using Star Nylon
Nylon thread suits leather and thick materials because it is strong and slightly elastic. Here is what to check before using it.

Leather, real or synthetic, is thick and stiff, so its seams carry a lot of stress. Ordinary garment thread is often not strong enough for the job. Nylon thread such as Star Nylon is a better fit.
Why nylon#
Nylon thread has high breaking strength and a little stretch. When a leather product bends or pulls, the thread gives slightly, so the seam is less likely to split.
Common uses#
- Boots and leather shoes.
- Vehicle upholstery.
- Handbags and leather bags.
On products like these, one failed seam can compromise the whole joint.
What to check#
Nylon thread usually has a glossy finish, which suits bold topstitching on leather. Choose a thread size (Tex or denier) that matches your needle and material thickness, and test-sew samples before production.
See the details on the Star Nylon page.
