Understanding Fire-Retardant (FR) Fabric
FR fabric is made to resist burning. Learn the two main types and the jobs that call for them.

In workplaces with heat and fire risk, ordinary uniforms are not enough. These industries rely on fire-retardant (FR) fabric.
What FR fabric is#
FR fabric is designed not to ignite easily and to extinguish itself. There are two main types: inherently flame-resistant materials such as meta-aramid, and ordinary fabric given a chemical FR treatment. Both protect, but they differ in long-term durability and care.
Who needs it#
It matters in oil and gas, mining, welding and electrical work, where workers face sparks and flame. The right garment gives them time to get clear.
Choosing correctly#
Choose based on the hazard, the garment design and the safety standard that applies, and ask the supplier for the matching technical documentation.
